Ranking the 2025 NWSL kits

The SheBelieves Cup has come and gone, so it's time to focus our attention on the NWSL season as the league announced it's latest kits for the 2025 season.

Ranking the 2025 NWSL kits

Welcome back to Walking Bucket.

Earlier this week, we broke down the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky with Aerial Atkins heading to the Windy City.

I didn't plan on releasing another piece this week, but when the itch is there, you scratch it.

And when it comes to new jersey releases, we. are. here. for. it.

The SheBelieves Cup has come and gone, so it's time to focus our attention on the NWSL season.

But before they take to their respective pitches, we are contractually obligated to discuss the latest NWSL kit releases.

The #NWSL has officially released the 2025 jerseys for each team on their online store. They are available in replica and authentic options: Replica - starting at $95 Authentic - starting at $195

So, because we like to be reactionary, and we like to rank things here, let's look at each of the kits. We'll be ranking them from worst to first.

  1. Utah Royals FC: The color is fantastic on this. But as long as America First continues to be the sponsor, it could be an exact replica of the Bella Barden's outfit from Pitch Perfect and it would still be in last place.

  1. NY/NJ Gotham FC: That's ... it? It looks like it's more of a warmup jersey than an actual jersey.

  1. Orlando Pride: I love the purple. It's fun, and it's unique. But I hate, hate, hate the way that Nike, the crest, and the sponsor are stacked on top of each other.

  1. Washington Spirit: One day, I dream of living in a world where if I want to wear a jersey of my favorite team that I won't look like I went into a CVS, bought a highlighter, and gave it to my niece to color the jersey with. One day (please). It is closer to an Oregon Ducks look, so Win The Day and all of that.

10. Chicago Stars FC: Do I love it? Do I hate it? I like the idea of it, with the nod to Millennium Park, but there's something off about it.

9. Houston Dash: I love this kit so damn much. It reminds me of one of those cups that Fuck Jerry used to use on their social media channels. Also, can we talk about this?

Yeah, they nailed it.

8. Seattle Reign FC: A nice, subtle nod to the city of Seattle. I don't do white jerseys, but this one hits.

7. North Carolina Courage: Janelle Monáe 🤝 Me 🤝 Barbie

Pink just looks so good on us.

6. San Diego Wave FC: To quote a friend anonymously: "It's a bummer the Wave are a toxic mess because their kit isn't awful."

Well said.

5. Kansas City Current: I didn't like it, then I loved it. The full teal is beautiful, and the subtle Kansas City gride on the jersey is a great addition.

4. Bay FC: How do you take an already beautiful kit and add another beautiful one to the selection? Well, ask Bay FC. It's not an in-your-face jersey like Portland's last year or Houston's this year, but the color scheme pops.

3. Portland Thorns FC: I like weird outfits. I think they are fun. But Ed Hardy was a nightmare from the early 2000s (I believe any Ed Hardy shirt I wore in college and proof of that is deleted). So going with that last year was ... a decision. But I'm happy to say that the Thorns are officially back. It's not doing too much, but it still catches your eye.

2. Racing Louisville: This should have been the Washington kit. I'm mad, but I also love the look of this. Green is such a great look for a jersey, and I'm so glad that Racing Louisville went with this look. I liked the purple and white look last year, so to do a complete 180 turn is surprising, yet welcome.

1. Angel City FC: Angel City FC just gets it. They submitted a multi-page document to the designers for what they wanted their kit to be – a love letter to their city and their fans. They knocked it out of the park.
